The Catholic Church today is going through very execptional and extraordinary moments. Today the world saw the last appearance of Benedict XVI as the successor of Peter and leader of the Roman Catholic Church. For the members of Schola Cantorum Jubilate this Pope has a special place in their hearts and wonderful memories to cherish.
On 12th September 2007 during the choir's musical visit to Rome and Assisi, the choir had the opporunity to meet Pope Benedict XVI while perfoming Perosi's masterpiece 'Tu Es Petrus' for 5 voices and other sacred pieces. Pope Benedict welcomed the choir while he kept listening to singing tranquilly. During this special audience the Pope spoke about the importance of Sacred Music in liturgy and the beauty of the Church musical heritage from great composers. He encouraged the members to keep performing and transmitting God's word through the beauty of Music.
Choir's leader Stefan Attard, on behalf of the choir members presented a gift to His Holiness the Pope which consisted of a copy of their album 'Jubilate' and a painting of a 'Volto Sacro' by Austin Camilleri. The Pope's Audience was aired live on the CTV channel, the official Vatican Television. Undoubtedly this was one of the most prestigious experiences the choir had, infront of a great man and leader.
Thank you Pope Bendict XVI
