Baptism at Xagħra Basilica

Baptism SymbolSchola Cantorum Jubilate was invited by Daniela and Victor Said to animate the Baptism ceremony of their newborn Jake. It happend to be also the fifth day of novena mass for children. In fact Deacon Daniel Sultana together with some young actors featured the story of Esther the Queen who managed to save the Jews.

The Mass started at 9.45am at the Basilica of Xagħra and was presided by H. E. Mgr. Joe Bonello, Bishop of Honduras. The Bishop who hails from Xagħra entererd in church at 9.30am and was welcomed by the choir singing the plain chant of ‘Sacerdos et Pontifex’.  

During the mass, the choir performed: ‘Tfajla Ħelwa’ (Portelli), Allelulia (Portelli), ‘Ave Verum Corpus’ (Mozart), ‘Sanctus’ (Gregorian Chant), ‘The Lord Bless you and keep you’ (Rutter), ‘Kull Tifħir’ (Taize’) and finally ‘O Sanctissima’ (Sicilian Mariners Hymn). Cantor Stefan Attard interpreted the psalm written by Paul Portelli.  After the baptism rite which was administered by Fr. Joseph Bajada, the choir sang a joyful ‘Allelulia’ from Bose-Taize’.

The choir was under the direction of Marouska Attard and accompanied by Joseph Camilleri on the organ.
