More Christmas celebrations continue and the church commemorates all events linked to Christ’s birth. In fact, today, though it is not the 6th of January, the church celebrates the Ephiphany, the visit of three wise men who arrived from a far to offer gifts to the new born King.
Epiphany is one of the oldest Christian feasts. The name comes from the Greek and is derived from the verb meaning ‘to reveal’ and God made man was revealed to nations.
Schola Cantorum Jubilate animated the 11am mass at the Basilica of Xaghra. It was officiated by Mgr. Carmel Refalo, Archpriest. The choir performed various Christmas hymns and pieces amongst which ‘We Three Kings of Orient are’ with arrangement of A. Pitts. The solo parts were interpreted by Christabella Vella (soprano), Sylvana Cini (Alto) and Marvic Cini (Tenor). The choir was under the direction of Marouska Attard and accompanied by Jean Noel Attard on the organ.
After this liturgical celebration, the choristers attended for lunch at Ta’ Frenċ Restaurant. It was another meaningful social occasion for all; with some quality time together enriched with mouth watering food.
