Apart from singing…

by Silvana Sultana

Summer brings around many outdoor activities and encounters. Schola Cantorum Jubilate during the past month had various occasions to spend some time together.

To open summertime, on Sunday 6th July, right after the Sunday Mass, the choristers attended for lunch at Marsalforn. This same occasion, served as a farewell lunch to Mark Gauci whose term with Schola Cantorum Jubilate came to an end. Mark Gauci took the direction of the choir in the absence of Marouska Attard who is currently finishing her Master Degree course in Choral Direction in Wales. A gift was given to Mro Gauci as a gesture of thanksgiving and appreciation of almost a year of commitments with the choir.

More festivities continued along the holidays’ season. On Sunday 19th July, the choristers organised the annual boat trip. It was a splendid day, one of the few which hit the island this summer. Then on Wednesday 23rd July, they organised a BBQ at Ħondoq Bay in Qala. The night started with a good swim just opposite the island of Comino and included also some good food, some good Italian wine and a delicious dessert. All food was freshly prepared by the choristers themselves.

Lately, a surprise welcome party was held in occasion of Marouska’s return to Gozo. It was a special night where a sense of familiarity and collegiality was felt.

Surely all these get-togethers will remain in everyone’s heart because though every chorister derives from different backgrounds and situations with rather demanding commitments, most manage to find time, collaborate and contribute for some quality time together.

May other occasions rise up because these are surely the best summer nights to spend together.
