A major project for SCJ in 2018

by Matthew Curmi

Something new and exciting has been in production lately as the choir embarked on a recording session which will expand the choir’s singing to more people.

Ben Connellan was responsible for this recording session. This sound engineer has worked with some of the best musicians and choirs in the world including King’s College, Westminster, Ely as well as countless orchestras and pianists. His know-how on sound recording, acoustics and voicing ensures the best quality sound recording.

The choir has been practising for this project since June 2017 as the repertoire covered is large in quantity and vast. After months of continuous rehearsals and tuning, all the effort was put together from the 12th January to 14th January as the choir embarked upon long hours of recording and correction to guarantee the most pleasurable results. The recording was done in the Church of St Augustine, which is associated with SCJ’s annual event of Carols by Candlelight. This was key as the church acoustics quite literally became part of the choir’s sound.

There was much more that I can say but I’d rather keep it vague. Something new exciting has been in production lately…stay in touch!
