SCJ seeking welfare for others

by Silvana Sultana

Since its inception, Schola Cantorum Jubilate had always given special attention to current situations in order to use its abilities and sustain those in need. Various philanthropic NGOs benefited from SCJ concerts’ proceeds. Some of these include charitable entities or funds for heritage restoration.

Last December, SCJ held its fourteenth edition of Carols by Candlelight and all proceeds were forwarded for charity, mainly to Dar Ġużeppa Debono that caters for pro-life education, pro-life events and that supports single mother. The total profits amounted to 4600€ and were distributed as follows:
•    2500€ were given to Dar Ġużeppa Debono,
•    1000€ to the Augustinian Community in Victoria that open their doors for the whole event,
•    1000€ to the Commissariat of Holy Land for their sterling work in Bethlehem from where all the story began
•    €100 were distributed among other NGOs that helped SCJ with its production: Azzjoni Kattolika Xagħra, Radio Lehen il-Qala and Wirt Għawdex.

Apart from this annual concert, SCJ performed in Sing Noël that was organised by the Xagħra Local Council. A collection was held in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund and amounted to 1040€.

Undoubtedly, this gives satisfaction to all choristers because with a joint effort they manage to perform and interpret choral works, to enrich the local musical scenario, to sustain the running of the choir but above all, to support other entities.
