The Church celebrates Palm Sunday which is the first Sunday of the Holy Week. It commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem preceding his passion. The Service begins with the blessing of the palms which will be used in the procession that follows and which leads to the entry into the church building. Schola Cantorum Jubilate animated the liturgy at 10.30am at the Fontana Parish Church officiated by Rev. Fr. Joseph Bajada. The congregation which participated in the procession was welcomed in church by the choir performing a joyful ‘Sanctus’ in SATB by Paul Portelli. Stefan Attard sang the psalm ‘Alla tiegħi għaliex tlaqtni’ (Portelli). The other pieces that followed were: ‘Glorja u Tifħir’ (Portelli), ‘O Bone Jesu’ (Palestrina), ‘Sanctus’ and ‘Agnus Dei’ (Plain Chant) and ‘O Ras ta’ Kristu Imbierka’ (Bach/Hassler). Fabian Cini accompanied the choir on the church organ and played also Haydn’s ‘Gloria Laus et Honor’ as recessional.
