The Gozo Cultural Section within the Ministry for Gozo organised the First Organ Festival. Apart from talks and concerts, the Festival included four masses in Gozo with the aim to make people aware of the importance of this church instrument in the liturgy. However, the Lenten period is not yet the right moment to experience the splendour of organ music in liturgy. Schola Cantorum Jubilate animated the 11am mass as usual at the Basilica of Maria Bambina, Xagħra. Dr. Joseph Camilleri accompanied the choir on the organ. The pieces performed were: ‘Attende Domini’ (sung by the male section), ‘Kyrie Elison’ (Taize’), the Psalm composed by Paul Portelli (sung by Stefan Attard), ‘O Bone Jesu’ (a cappella) by Palestrina, ‘Sanctus’ and ‘Angus Dei’ (Plain Chant), ‘O Ras ta’ Kristu Imbierka’ (Bach) and finally ‘Stabat Mater’ (Plain Chant).
