The Metropolitan Cathedral Chapter and the St. John's Co-Cathedral Foundation produced for the first time an international sacred music festival – “Credo in Unum Deum” (9-12 June). This festival featured the Monteverdi Polyphonic Choir from Urbino, Italy, Marie Louise Langlais, the second best organist in the world, the Abos Brass Ensemble and ended with the ‘Missa Octavi Toni' by Orlando Lassus (1512-1594) and executed by The Collegium Musicum. The Schola Cantorum Jubilate was requested to perform during today's concert, which started at 7.30pm. The choir left Gozo with the 4.30pm ferryboat and headed directly to the artistic sacristy of the Metropolitan Cathedral where they had a warming up session and changed in their uniform. The sacred polyphonic motets chosen for the evening were ‘O Bone Jesu' (Palestrina), ‘Ave Maria' (de Victoria), ‘Adoramus Te' (Palestrina), ‘Sicut Cervus' (Palestrina), ‘Crux Fidelis' (King John IV of Portugal), ‘O Sacrum Convivium' (Perosi), ‘Tantum Ergo' (Portelli), ‘Regina Coeli' (Lotti). The evening included the Medit Chamber Players, Claire Massa and Annmarie Camilleri Podesta (voice and harp) and the Trio Compositori Ragusani. The splendid baroque Cathedral was crowded with music lovers and even tourists. The Schola Cantorum Jubilate gave another great performance and received a mirthful appreciation by distinguished and by the present audience.
