The National celebration of the Great Sieges of Malta was held at Xagħra. It started with a Pontifical High Mass at the Basilica of Maria Bambina in Xagħra that was officiated by Mgr. Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo.
Schola Cantorum Jubilate animated the liturgy and interpreted various pieces amongst which Oltrasi’s ‘Missa Cantate Domino’ and ‘Magnificat’ by Paul Portelli. Marouska Attard interpreted also ‘Is-Sliema’ (Portelli) during the offerings while Stefan Attard animated the Psalm. The choir was accompanied by John Anthony Fsadni on the organ.
Present for the mass was H. E. Mary Louise Coleiro Preca - President of Malta, Hon. Dr. Joseph Muscat - Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Anton Refalo - Minister for Gozo, Hon. Dr. Justyne Caruana- Parliamentary Secretary for Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Aging, Dr. Anglu Farrugia – Hon. Speaker, other Ministers and Members of Parliament, a delegation from the Courts of Justice and members of the Knights of Malta.
