For the members of the Schola Cantorum Jubilate, this was a memorable night. They left Gozo with the 8.45pm ferry boat for a concert ‘A Cappella' at Auberge De Castille in Valletta. This concert was part of the Notte Bianca Malta organized by the Malta Council of Arts under the auspices of the Office of the Prime Minister. The choir performed 14 pieces a cappella at the courtyard of the Auberge. This was the first time that the Maltese and even the tourists had the opportunity to visit the offices of the Prime Minister. This historical building served as the British Army Headquarters and was even used by the Nato. The total number of visitors amounted to 11,000. This was a unique opportunity and probably the most motivating for the general public. ‘A Cappella' started at midnight in the courtyard. Dianne Angie Galea greeted the audience which gathered in the flambeaux lighted yard. The atmosphere was a pleasant one, taking everyone back in the time of the knights. The pieces sung were from different composers: Palestrina, Lotti, Temple, Arcadelt, Frisina and Portelli. The performance included also some poems which were read by Stefan Attard. The poems were: ‘Alla Artist' by Ganninu Cremona, ‘Ohrog qamar' by Charles Coleiro and ‘Warda Maltija' by Ganninu Cremona. The concert finished around 1.00am. After the concert the choristers visited the city and turned home with the 4.15am ferryboat. It was truly a ‘Notte Bianca' – a sleepless night.
