On Easter Sunday Schola Cantorum Jubilate kept its appoitment of animating the 11.00 am mass at the Xagħra Basilica. During the introit procession the choir sang ‘Surrexit Christus’.
Schola Cantorum Jubilate animated the Liturgy of the Easter Vigil at the National Shrine of Ta’ Pinu. The liturgy, during this most solemn of nights in the Catholic liturgical calendar, starts with the benediction of fire, the lighting of the Paschal Candle and the proclamation of the Exultet. The latter was interpreted by Tenor Stanley Portelli who announced Christ resurrection from the pulpit. The reading of the seven lessons from Scriptures follows suite, reminding the faithful the history of Salvation from the moment of creation. Seven choristers (Diana Formosa, Ann Marie Bajada, Sephora Galea, Sylvana Cini, Silvianne Buttigieg, Christian Mifsud and Joseph Bartolo) sang the psalms and led the congration in order to sing in one voice to glorify the Lord.
Schola Cantorum Jubilate animated the adoration of the cross at the National Shrine of Ta’ Pinu. The liturgy started at 3.00 pm in silence as a sign of mourning while commemorating the passion and death of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Schola Cantorum Jubilate’s first appointment during the Paschal Triduum at the National Shrine of Ta’ Pinu, was on Holy Thursday. On this day the Church commemorates the Last Supper of Our Lord before entering into a three day mourning period. The choir was under the direction of Marouska Attard and Joseph Camilleri, accompanied on the Organ.
A recording of the concert ‘Crucifixus’ was be shown on Malta National TV Station (TVM) on Good Friday. This included sacred motets by Palestrina, Bach, Bartolucci, Stainer and Portelli. The concert also includes reflections on the passion of Christ written by Fr. Joseph Bajada and read by actor Mario Micallef and Joyce Curmi.
