30th October to 4th November 2015
Monday 2nd November 2015 – On the land

At around 8am, the group left the Hotel and reached the ‘Coaches Terminus’ known as the ‘Tronchetto’ where a private coach was waiting for them.

After around 50 minutes drive, they reached Padova and headed immediately towards the Basilica of St. Anthony. At first the group was taken in a room where they put on robes and had a warming up session. Later, one of the friars came for the choristers since the time for the mass was approaching. They walked along magnificent cloisters, all marking different periods of time.

On entering inside the Basilica, all stood aghast with the sight of enormous sculptures and impressive works of art. Schola Cantorum Jubilate animated the 11am mass and gave a short recital right after. Present for the mass were various people who visited also the tomb of the Saint which obviously attracts many faithful pilgrims from around the world.

The celebrant presented the choir to the congregation stating that the choir travelled from Malta. He congratulated them for their animation and for producing good music which exalts the beauty of the Lord.

Once the service was over, the choristers joined the queue and visited the chapel where St. Anthony remains’ lay. They also joined in chorus and sang various pieces which helped those visiting the chapel to join in prayer. Later, they took also some pictures in the cloisters surrounding the well-cared for gardens.

After a light lunch, the day trip continued and in the afternoon, they arrived at Sirmione, a peninsula on the Lake Garda. The group went for a boat ride around the peninsula which gave them the opportunity to see the area from the lake. The guide talked about the history of the area and indicated certain villas amongst which Maria Callas’ villa, Catullo’s ruins and various Spa Centres which attract many tourists.

Undoubtedly, the choir will remember the marvellous sunset they enjoyed while eating a delicious ice-cream.

Later in the evening, the group returned to Venice and though they had some free time, all met for dinner and another night stroll in Venice.
