Choristers go on a boat trip

by Josette Sultana

It’s summer! What do you hear calling you? A nice relaxing day by the beach! Or well, why not spending a day round the glorious island of Gozo? This day is long sought for by the choristers of Schola Cantorum Jubilate and they plan it long way ahead so as to avoid missing it. You’d say it’s easy to join a group of friends and hire a boat for a day. True! But spending a day together as a whole group is beyond meaning. The element of friendship and bond between each chorister is immediately felt. Everyone was very excited and there were cheers every time small groups of choristers were going on the boat.

Such days are essential for choristers as they get to know each other more and from different perspectives. Elements of stress which are sometimes felt during rehearsals disappeared and everyone was relaxed. All this calls for enhancing the friendship between each chorister, leaving such outings and events very useful and successful. All set and ready? The choristers left Gozo at around 9 in the morning where the first stop was in Blue Lagoon. The sea was crystal clear and everyone was excited to take the first dip. It was all so peaceful and relaxing as it was still a bit early and there were not so many people.

Back on the boat, Fr Joseph Bajada celebrated mass where the choristers participated actively. There was an element of pray, even on the boat. This leads to further the strong relationship both between the choristers themselves, as well as between each chorister and God. Off the boat again for yet another dip in the sea surrounding Comino island was much awaited as the day was getting hotter. Time flies when you’re having fun! Schola Cantorum Jubilate choristers can confirm this. Hopping from one beach to another with the sun shining and the smell of the blue sea was so relaxing.

Sharing jokes and listening to music on the boat was one of the best feelings as everyone was united. Sometimes, we are carried away by too many things that we tend to forget to stop and reflect on how gifted we are by being surrounded with such good friends. The trip was over at around 4.30 in the afternoon. Everyone was super delighted and cherry-red smiles were all over. Until next year!
