A new chapter for SCJ

by Silvana Sultana

Choir Directors Marouska Attard and Mark GauciAutumn brought with it a new chapter for Schola Cantorum Jubilate. Though autumn drifts from hot summer days to bleak winters, the change in SCJ is surely less drastic though more beneficial.

Director and Soprano Marouska Attard left the island of Gozo for the United Kingdom. She will be away for a year studying for Masters Degree in Choral Direction. As from next week she will start her course at one of the top five UK Conservatoires for music, precisely at the Royal Welsh Collage of Music and Drama.

Since childhood, Marouska has always dreamt of conducting a choir. Such dream was realised and for thirteen years she conducted her own choir bringing it from strength to strength. With her dedication and commitment she managed to give a musical education to the choristers and bring out hidden talents. The success of SCJ is closely associate to Marouska and her incredible energy of teaching and performing music.

In order to continue its venture, Schola Cantorum Jubilate will be directed by another great Gozitan musician, Mark Gauci. Mro. Gauci will continue on Marouska’s foosteps and new projects are in the pipeline... because SCJ will move on.

The Administration together with all choristers sincerely congratulate Marouska and wish her the best of luck for the coming scholastic year. A special welcome is also given to the new Director Mark Gauci. We are all sure that together we will continue Marouska’s dream!
