SCJ with another year full of events

by Silvana Sultana

Schola Cantorum Jubilate 2014 eventsAfter the hectic period which Christmas brings around, Schola Cantorum Jubilate continues with its weekend commitments. Choristers meet every Saturday afternoon for a rehearsal and again on Sunday morning for a rehearsal followed by the 11am sung mass at the Basilica of Maria Bambina, Xagħra.

However, apart from preparing itself with the suitable liturgical music for the Sunday mass, the choir has many important events coming up.

Like in previous years, the choir will animate the sacred liturgy at Ta’ Pinu National Shrine during the Paschal Triduum in mid-April. Various couples asked also the choir to animate their nuptial mass which, in Gozo, happen to be held mostly during spring and summer. Another appointment on the choir’s diary, is the Priestly ordination held at the Gozo Cathedral on 30th May.

However, the most demanding and expected event is surely the ‘Requiem’ by Maurice Durufle. Schola Cantorum Jubilate will join forces with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra to produce this Requiem, op. 9. It was commissioned to Maurice Duruflé in 1947 by the French music publisher Durand and is written in memory of the composer’s father.
