SCJ to host The University of London Chamber Choir

ulcc concerts malta gozo lowIn collaboration with the Schola Cantorum Jubilate of Gozo, the University of London Chamber Choir (ULCC) will perform in Malta. The ULCC is a dynamic and enthusiastic choir of some 26 singers, formed of students and former students from colleges of the University of London. It is a diverse and international ensemble. The choir performs regularly in London and other parts of the UK. Following its highly successful and widely acclaimed tour of northern Italy in 2012, ULCC will be travelling to Malta and Gozo where they will perform three concerts.

Across the two islands, ULCC will perform at the following:

Tuesday 24 June – 12 noon: Ta’ Ġieżu Church, Valletta
Wednesday 25 June – 12 noon: Carmelite Priory, Mdina
Thursday 26 June – 8pm: Basilica of Xagħra, Gozo

The choir will perform a wide variety of music, including sacred music by the English composers Byrd, Purcell, Stanford, Walton and the contemporary composer Bob Chilcott.

ULCC is conducted by Dr Colin Durrant, who has been with the choir for nearly ten years says: “Malta is a very special place for us, as my wife was brought up and went to school there. We are so looking forward to singing in some of the beautiful churches and sharing some glorious music.”   

Chairperson, Laura Gumbley, said “The tour gives us the chance to share some of the music we have been working hard on throughout the year: a fitting end to a very successful year.
