This, and more, is Schola Cantorum Jubilate’s Teas The Season! planned for 11th December, 2022 at the Kempinski Hotel, San Lawrenz, and featuring the younger members of the SCJ choirs. This afternoon concert and Victorian-inspired tea party will celebrate the beauty of Christmas, of course with some unique additions and marvellous surprises, as is by now synonymous with SCJ.

“We aim at providing new experiences for our choristers and the attendees through innovation and creativity”, says Choir Leader Stefan Attard. “This year, Teas The Season! will offer an interesting and Christmassy setting, distinctive carols and special culinary treats. Undoubtedly, it’s going to be an afternoon where combined arts meet to deliver a very special Christmas concert that, although performed by children and youths, will provide a stylish start to the festive season”.

The concert features three distinct groups within SCJ: the Children’s Choir, the Teenage Boys Singers and the Children’s Choir Younger Group, accompanied by Amy Rapa on the piano, under the direction of Marouska Attard. “The repertoire chosen has been adapted and arranged for the children’s vocal and musical abilities. It includes all-time favourite carols written with a contemporary twist”, explains Marouska.

The expertly curated repertoire includes classical and contemporary carols from Alison Carver, Steve Kupferschmid, Mary Lynn Lightfoot, Phillis Wolfe Wight, Ruth Morris Gray, Paul Portelli and Chris Muscat, as well as prose by Alex Farrugia. It also includes an unlikely component: the audience’s mobile phones.

After two Christmases of restricted social gatherings, Teas The Season! promises to offer the perfect first immersion into the peace and joy of Christmas!
