The Schola Cantorum Jubilate started the New Year with mass at 11am at the Basilica of Maria Bambina in Xagħra. Mass was officiated by Mgr. Carmelo Refalo, Archpriest of the Basilica. The choir performed the ‘Missa Cantate Domino’ by Giuseppe Oltrasi. The other hymns performed were: ‘O Come all ye faithful’ arr. Willcocks, Psalm and Allelulia (Portelli), ‘Christmas Lullaby’ (Rutter), ‘Alma Redemptoris Mater’ (arr. Frisina). The last piece was performed since today; the church is celebrating Mary, Mother of God. The Basilica of Xagħra holds the ‘Quarant’Ore’ in this period of the year and at the end of the mass, the Holy Eucharist was transported from the Sacrament Chapel to the main altar. During the short procession the choir performed ‘Tina l-Ħlewwa’ and at the end of mass, ‘Kull tifħir’. Jean Noel Attard accompanied the choir on the church organ.
