Schola Cantorum Jubilate presents Chapel Trail Cantata, a unique cultural initiative taking place on 24 October 2026, combining classical music, Gozo’s historic chapels and heritage interpretation to create an immersive experience for audiences.
Rather than presenting a conventional concert in a single venue, Chapel Trail Cantata will take participants on a journey through five historic chapels across Gozo, with each stop featuring a recital specially selected to complement the character and atmosphere of the chapel.
The repertoire has been carefully curated to reflect the ambience of each sacred space, allowing audiences to experience not only the music but also the architecture, history and acoustics of these treasured sites. The programme will feature music from different eras, including works by Palestrina, Victoria, Bach, Handel, Gounod, Haydn and Gjeilo among others. Through this combination of music and heritage, the initiative seeks to encourage a deeper appreciation of the artistic achievements of past generations and the remarkable craftsmanship of Gozo’s ancestors.
At a time when technology and modern resources are readily available, the chapels and music compositions stand as a testament to the creativity, dedication, skills and craftsmanship of the people who created them. Chapel Trail Cantata offers audiences an opportunity to pause, immerse themselves in these historic surroundings and discover the beauty of these spaces through both music and heritage.
Participants will be divided into five groups, each departing from the Gozo Park & Ride at Ta’ Xħajma, limits of Xewkija at different times. Those attending are required to book their seat on the electric bus in advance, choosing their preferred time. On the day of the event, participants are asked to arrive at the Park & Ride in their own transport, which can be left at the site while they travel on the designated bus assigned to their group. This arrangement helps reduce the carbon footprint of the event.
Each group will be accompanied by a guide who will provide information along the route, highlighting points of natural and historical interest, landmarks and other aspects of Gozo’s cultural heritage before arriving at the respective chapels. It is not going to be possible to visit the chapels individually.
Places for this distinctive cultural experience are limited. Those interested are encouraged to reserve their seats at the earliest opportunity to avoid disappointment. Participation and booking are free of charge.
Bookings can be made through the Schola Cantorum Jubilate website: https://scjchoir.com/upcoming-events
