by Silvana Sultana

Wedding-of-Mary-and-Joseph-by-GiottoRodianne Xerri, former member of Schola Cantorum Jubilate got married to Christian Xerri at the Basilica of Xagħra. The new couple requested the choir to animate their Nuptial Mass.

Mass, officiated by Mgr. George Farrugia, started at 5.30pm with the bride reaching the alter where her groom expected her excitedly. She was welcomed by Schubert’s ‘Ave Maria’ which was interpreted by Soprano Georgina Gauci.

The choir was under the direction of Mro. Mark Gauci and accompanied by John Anthony Fsadni on the organ, Jacob Portelli on the violin and Noemi Attard as flutist. They performed various classical and sacred pieces amongst which: ‘Allelulia’ (Taize’), ‘Panis Angelicus’ (Franck), ‘Sanctus’ and ‘Agnus Dei’ (Oltrasi), ‘Make me a channel of your peace’ (Temple) and finally ‘Exaltabo te’. At the very end of the ceremony, the organist played Mendelsshon’s ‘Wedding March’.

Schola Cantorum Jubilate extends its sincere greetings to the new couple.
