Today, the church celebrates St. Joseph the worker, or better the carpenter. Moreover, the Basilica of Marija Bambina in Xaghra, during this weekend celebrates the feast of St. Joseph as its co-patron. Schola Cantorum Jubilate animated the liturgy of the First Day of Triduum. The mass started at 7pm and was officiated by Mgr. Arc. Carmelo Refalo. The ‘Missa de Angeli' by Terenzio Zardini was performed. It is set in four voices alternating with the assemblea who responds with the Gregorian Chant. The other hymns performed were: ‘Jubilate Deo' (Portelli), ‘Allelulia' (arr. Frisina), ‘Panis Angelicus' (Franck) with the solo part interpreted by Marouska Attard, ‘Kristu qam mill-imwiet' (Portelli) and ‘O Sacrum Convivium' (Bartolucci). After the mass, the choir performed the Antiphon of St. Joseph followed by ‘Nadurawk ja Hobz tas-Sema' (Caruana) as the Eucharist was being exposed for the blessing of the congregation. The service ended with ‘Tantum Ergo' (Portelli), ‘Adoremus in aeternum' (Gregorian Chant) and finally ‘Fil-Hlewwa ta' Mejju' (arr. Buhagiar). The choir was accompanied by Mro. Stephen Attard on the organ.
